Which bicycle gps Is For You?
A bicycle GPS can be very valuable to a serious bicyclist. You might be a bit surprised by the number of models available to be selected from. Garmin alone has a wide selection in a variety of price ranges. So if you decided to get a bicycle gps, where do you start in deciding which one is for you?
While bicycling was not my first choice as an exercise form, I always enjoyed running, but due to a leg injury a few years ago I am no longer able to run, and bicycling has provided an excellent replacement. However, because of this I know that you could use a Garmin forerunner 305 wristwatch and use it as a bicycle gps. However this would only be a relatively inexpensive substitute, because there are so many options out there specifically designed for the bicyclist.
For those who want to go all out, the Garmin edge 705 would be considered top-of-the-line. It’s brilliant color display has 16 customizable fields of data, including a heart rate monitor, workout data, save the rides among other things and is 2.2 inch diagonal screen is visible even in bright sunlight. While
it retails for over $500, there are many places where you can get one for far less.
The Garmin edge 500 is more of a midrange model. It has a lot of the great features of the 705, but it does not have a mapping display. It can however measure your speed, distance, altitude, rate of climb or descent, calories burned and many other details which would be of interest to the avid cyclist.
Garmin is not the only manufacturer that makes a bicycle GPS, but it does seem to have more models than anyone else. Polar also makes a wide variety of GPS units that can be used as a bicycle gps, though they are not labeled specifically as such. They do however offer as an extra accessory, a bicycle mount, so that several of the units can be used as a bicycle gps.
We will be offering data and reviews on a variety of the various bicycle GPS units available, as well as other information that might be of interest to a bicyclist. Our intention is to be as helpful as possible in helping you find a bicycle GPS that would suit your needs, if you are looking for one or current information if you are only interested in knowing about them.
Either way we’re glad you stopped by and hope we can be of service to you. Happy cycling!
